[dropcap size=big]T[/dropcap]he Walking Dead” Season 6 Finale ended with an infamous scene from the comics: after playing a torturous “Eenie, Meenie, Miney Moe”, Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Mogan) has chosen his victim and swung his spiky baseball bat, which he names Lucille. But who is it? The last thing we expect are the showrunners trolling their audience – unmistakably showing us the death itself but on the dying victim’s point of view. Are you kidding me?
This manipulative cliffhanger ending has sparked disappointment among critics and us fans, dubbing it, in unison, the “worst season finale” of the series. Still, that didn’t stop us from speculating who could have been on the finale’s gruesome, barbed-wired end. Handy internet folks have even removed the audio distortion from the last scene to extract the screaming voices as Negan bashes someone’s skull in. Anyway, at some point during the hiatus, you should have scoured some theories online or at least, drew stick figures of Rick and the gang, and sang the nursery rhyme yourself. (Or was I the only one, who did that?).
In time for this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, the series has released character posters for Season 7 and they all looked, well, pissed. Who do you think is ready to meet the light? (FYI, Lucille is a French word for “light”) Please go ahead and over-analyze their facial expressions.

Showrunners Scott Gimple and Robert Kirkman promised us that the victim will be revealed on the season premiere. (Yes, it won’t be one of those character-focused detours that have clearly been the show’s current indulgement.) The trailer shows the characters we know for sure are alive and offers only some heartfelt flashbacks for Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the rest of the ones at peril. Unfortunately, Carol (Melissa McBride), who last season was having some sort of an “apocalyptic midlife crisis”, is shot in the arm and the leg last season so it is highly unlikely that our official #SlayQueen will show up on the Lucille reaping scene and go, “Look at the flowers” all over Negan.
Season Seven also introduces a new community called, “The Kingdom,” headed by the self-proclaimed, King Ezekiel (Khary Payton), a former zookeeper who steals a Bengal tiger for him to keep by his side. Without spoiling too much on this character, Ezekiel, in the comics, is a friend to the Hilltop Colony and harbors a strong hatred for Negan and The Saviors. Is he going to be Rick’s salvation?
